"This came like an epiphany, i just got up and wanted to have fun with my camera’s"

.

Story:

I was waiting on my friend Bruno to go grab a coffee and film, take pictures with my material and he was suppose to bring his camera.

While I was waiting on him I ended up just registering what caught my attention and curiosity, using my abilities and this was made!

Part of it was discovered while editing

He ended up not making it but I ended up with this Experimental Film.

At the time I was working on an Airtime, advertising for a project to be voted on as a "Participatory Budget" proposal for the Caldas da Rainha City Council.

In this specific project, we filmed in what we call "Mata das Caldas," meaning a setting with lots of woods, trees, some flowers, and nature. It also inspired this idea of capturing nature.

My notion of Sound Design, giving an extra dimension exclusively trough sound was also on board.

Contrasting the sounds of people or kids having fun yet you see a pair of roses that start to be infested with ants and you hear violins played in “pizzicato”, which consists of pulling the strings to simulate ants circling the roses.

Giving sound to sunlight rays, water splashes and so on.

Furthermore, and most importantly, at the time, my uncle and godfather José Augusto was hospitalized near the filming location, and I remember always looking there, hoping or imagining that he would emerge from there and there he would come with a spirit much more youthful than his biological age at the time.

This project was exported in the program I used, Adobe Premiere, very close to the time of his passing; I would know hours after the fact.

For some unintentional reason, guided by my feelings, I always felt that the reality of "what if he doesn't survive?" is somehow reflected in this project. Whether his passing or this project, they weren't in my plans or ideas.

The plans would have been different; that's for those who believe in destiny or that things are written and that we have the freedom (or illusion thereof) of free choice to get there.

I like to create and express myself, to be curious. There are a few techniques here that I developed playing with the camera and editing. Without curiosity, we stagnate and stop evolving. I urge you to be curious and always explore.
